Generation entrepreneur - A Different Lens (Generation Series)

More university graduates are turning their back on traditional employment. A younger generation of savvy business people is emerging and they are disrupting the economic model. With the rising emergence of technology, this generation is asking why they should work for someone else, when they can create their own start-ups and generate their own success.

The new generation entrepreneurs are asking is it environmentally friendly, is it acceptable to the community and how can I make a difference?

But despite the infinite opportunities, Australia is slow at converting innovative research into new business success. Will this new wave of entrepreneurship change workplaces forever, or will the new world market leave us behind?

The statistics are saying anything from 40 to 60 percent of people going through university are expressing an interest in being an entrepreneur.

    Professor Ian Smith has responsibility for the oversight and management of Monash University's research alliances and research infrastructure. Ian is an accomplished medical researcher and is recognised as a leader in his field. His research applies proteomics technologies to study the proteases involved in the generation and metabolism of peptide regulators involved in both brain and cardiovascular function

    Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice-President (Enterprise and Governance)

    Ken joined Monash as the inaugural Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Enterprise) in 2017. In 2020, he was promoted to Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice-President (Enterprise and Governance). As a member of University executive, Ken is responsible for providing University-wide leadership and strategic support for the creation and acceleration of major partnership opportunities, government relations, precinct development, opportunity creation and revenue development, commercialisation, innovation, entrepreneurship, strategic intelligence and insight, group governance, and institutional risk. Ken is a Professor (Practice) in the Department of Management in the Faculty of Business and Economics.

    Senior Lecturer, Department of Marketing, Monash Business School

    Davide’s research focuses on two broad areas: consumer psychology in social marketing settings, and narrative theory. In the field of social marketing, Davide employs experimental methods and structural equation modelling to unravel the intricacies of consumer psychology applied to protection motivation, wicked consumptions, prosocial behaviours, and green communications.
