Biography

Matthew’s teaching and practice are focused on Palliative Medicine and the ethical
issues surrounding end-of- life options, communication, and decision-making. His
research in these areas informed a series of publications that demystified palliative
care by drawing on patient testimonies of their preferences for advance care
treatment plans.

For Matthew, the value of putting patient preference first is in
allowing the person the agency of control over his or her choices for the future.
