Biography
Mark is one of Australia’s most important designers, an inductee into the country’s Design Hall of Fame. He is passionate about design education and was recently appointed The Eva and Marc Besen International Research Chair in Design. His pedagogy is centred on a collaborative multi-disciplinary process of studio-based research.
Mark is also Founder and Director of Blue Sky, a private design consultancy. His clients include Qantas, Cochlear, Resmed, Omega, Breville, Telstra, Coles, Electrolux, Commonwealth Bank, Xstarta, Caroma, Victa, United Nations, Olympus and SOCOG. The range of work he has done at Blue Sky is extraordinary and includes the Sydney Olympic torch, the Cochlear Nucleus 5 hearing implant, and the new trains on Sydney's commuter rail network.
Mark is co-Director of MADA’s Health Collab, a design research collaboration between commercial partners, university researchers and medical bodies that’s focused on health and wellbeing. Mark has provided industrial design expertise to the Bionic Eye project, working very closely with Clinicians and Engineers from the Monash Vision Group to produce the wearable headgear assembly for the first human implant.
