Lynette's research is broadly anthropological-history. She has published widely in the areas of theory, Indigenous histories, post-colonialism and representations of race, museum studies and popular culture. In 2010 she was awarded a five-year ARC Professorial Fellowship (with Dr Leigh Boucher, Macquarie University) to undertake a study of Victorian Ethnographers 1834-1930.
