Biography
Jian is internationally recognised as a research leader in the pharmacology of polymyxins, a class of antibiotics that are used to treat multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria.
Polymyxins are often the last line of defense in tackling these deadly ‘superbugs’. But even these potent antibiotics are increasingly becoming ineffective. Jian’s research into polymyxin pharmacology, toxicity and drug discovery is keeping us one step ahead. His team is developing novel therapies, including polymyxin combinations, to help in the fight.
“Patients who have undergone major surgery or chemotherapy are highly vulnerable to Gram-negative infections, and without effective antibiotics available, they are at much greater risk of death,” Jian says.
