Biography
Benjamin was Associate Professor at Australian Catholic University prior to joining Monash University, and a postdoctoral research fellow at Uppsala University and Stockholm University, Sweden. His research focuses on contemporary challenges to liberal democracy, and he is one of the world’s foremost international experts on populism, having authored three influential books on the topic: The Global Rise of Populism: Performance, Political Style and Representation (Stanford University Press, 2016); Populism (Polity, 2020); and Political Meritocracy & Populism: Cure or Curse? (Routledge, 2020, with Mark Chou and Octavia Bryant).
