Hui-Yu is a social work academic and practitioner with experience across clinical practice, policy development, research, and education. With more than a decade of frontline and policy experience, she draws on real-world insights to prepare students for contemporary social work practice across diverse settings.

She’s currently completing a PhD at Monash, focusing on professional identity development among international social work students and graduates in Australia.

Prior to her current academic role, Hui-Yu held several positions in the Tasmanian Department of Health and the Tasmania Health Service, where she led and supported projects in child safeguarding, workforce development and digital innovation.

Her clinical background in hospital social work focused on supporting older adults and people with cognitive impairments. This experience sparked her enduring interest in how people living with dementia or cognitive impairment can be better supported in decision-making processes, and continues to inform her commitment to ethical, person-centred, and inclusive practice.
