Biography
Dr Herbary Cheung (he/dia/เขา/佢) is a Lecturer in Gender Studies and Work Integrated Learning/Internship Coordinator at the Malaysia School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS), Monash University. Born, raised and educated in the United States, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong, he received his PhD from The Education University of Hong Kong under the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS).Trained as a feminist sociologist and Southeast Asianist, he believes “knowledge is co-produced in ethnographic research”. His research engages with gender and migration, family, marriage and health, intersectionality, and contextual mobility, focusing on Southeast Asia-Hong Kong connections. Research interests include gender, sexuality and development, transnational migration and refugee, contextual mobility, family, marriage and health, intersectionality.
