Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
Bernadette’s research explores the intersection between the physical and psychological elements of how we experience pain. She uses state of the art neuroimaging, neurophysiology and brain stimulation techniques to help measure and visualize brain activity, to learn about the anatomy involved in pain perception and develop novel approaches for treating intractable pain.
“There may be some truth in saying persistent pain is “all in your head”, but more as a reflection of associated brain changes than a figment of the imagination.” she says.
